W okolicach Końskich we wrześniu 1939 roku rozlokowana była 36 Dywizja Piechoty dowodzona przez płk Bolesława Ostrowskiego, która wchodziła w skład południowej grupy Armii „Prusy". W dniu 7 września na pozycje obronne 163 pułku piechoty dowodzonego przez ppłk Przemysława Nakoniecznikoffa natarła niemiecka 1 Dywizja Lekka. Walki trwały kilka godzin. Po ostatnim natarciu niemieckim odpartym przez polskich żołnierzy, hitlerowcy zaprzestali dalszego ataku. W walce poległo 50 polskich żołnierzy i kilkuset było rannych.

In September 1939, the 36th Infantry Division commanded by colonel Bolesław Ostrowski there was stationing in the vicinity of Końskie, which had been incorporated into the southern group of the "Prusy" Army. On the 7th of September, a German 1st Light Division attacked the defensive positions of the 163rd infantry regiment, commanded by lieutenant-colonel Przemysław Nakoniecznikoff. The struggles lasted a few hours, after the last Wermacht attack fended off by the Polish troops, the Germans ceased further attacks. In this struggle 50 Polish soldiers died and few hundred were injured.
