W latach okupacji na terenie gminy Bliżyn działało szereg oddziałów partyzanckich GL-AL i AK. W bliżyńskich lasach doszło do wielu walk z hitlerowcami. W 1943 r. walczył na terenie gminy oddział GL Władysława Wasilewskiego „Oseta”, oddział AK Waldemara Szwieca „Robota”. Latem 1944 r. koncentrowały się tu niektóre pododdziały 2 Dywizji AK, w sierpniu i we wrześniu jednostki AL. W dniach 16-19 września doszło do bitwy partyzantów AL z oddziałami hitlerowskimi na Świniej Górze, z której partyzanci wyszli zwycięsko.

Monument to the Second World War victims
During the occupation many partisan units of the People’s Guard-People’s Army (GL-AL) and Home Army (AK) were operating in Bliżyn district. Several battles were fought with the Nazis in the Bliżyn’s woods. In 1943 People’s Guard unit under command of Władysław Wasilewski alias “Oset” and Home Army unit under command of Waldemar Szwiec alias “Robot” were fighting in this district. In summer of 1944 some sub-units of the 2nd Home Army Division concentrated here, as well as units of People’s Army in August and September. From the 16th to 19th September the People’s Army partisans fought a victorious battle with the Nazi troops on Świnia Góra.
